Rocky Mountain Oncology offers yoga therapy as part of its wellness mission to help patients achieve a connection between the body and mind.
What is yoga?
The practice of yoga, which originated over 5000 years ago in India, integrates physical and mental exercises to achieve a connection between the body and mind. The word itself is derived from the ancient Sanskrit word meaning “union.”

Is it safe?
Yes. There are many different styles of yoga which emphasize, to various degrees, physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation. The physical aspect of yoga includes gentle stretching movements and alignment of the body into various positions to improve flexibility, strength and balance. Breathing techniques and meditation help to enhance the effects of the physical elements while increasing energy and mental function. With yoga, each patient is able to work at his or her own pace while still experiencing the physical and emotional well-being associated with the practice.
